Hurricane Relief

Damascus & Taylors Valley, Virginia

Damascus and Taylors Valley were among the hardest hit areas of Southwest Virginia in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Flooding has decimated the community, coating the towns in thick mud, wiping out bridges, and creating sinkholes.  Flooding has decimated the community, coating the towns in thick mud, wiping out bridges, and creating sinkholes.
Church on the Hill is partnering with John and Susan Coleman of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren in Damascus to launch a coordinated relief effort, under the direction of Bud Brydge and a team of COTH members. We invite you to consider joining them in one or more of these four ways:

1. MENNONITE BUILDING PROJECT

Partner with us to restore homes and infrastructure damaged by the flood.

The Mennonite Building Project will focus on essential repairs, offering skilled labor and construction materials to ensure that affected families have safe and functional living spaces. Whether you have carpentry skills or are willing to assist in general labor, your hands will be instrumental in this rebuilding effort.

2. WORK PARTY

You’re invited to our work party!

Together we can make a meaningful impact by offering practical help with tasks such as painting, physical labor, cleanup, and simple repairs. These acts of service will bring hope and restore dignity to those facing difficult circumstances. Whether you’re skilled with a paintbrush, willing to work alongside others in cleanup efforts, or ready to lend a hand, your support can make a powerful difference.

3. FINANCIAL GIVING

Every dollar brings us closer to restoring stability and hope.

For those unable to join us on-site, financial support is a powerful way to contribute to our ongoing relief and outreach efforts. Donations to our Focus Fund support not only this current rebuilding initiative but also allow us to respond swiftly to future needs in our community. This fund enables our team to gather essential materials, organize work projects, and provide crucial resources to families in need throughout Damascus, Taylors Valley, and beyond.

4. FOOD & COUNSELING SERVICES

Recovery is not only physical but also emotional.

We are organizing food distributions and counseling services for affected families. Volunteers are needed to assist with meal preparation and distribution and to provide a compassionate ear to those facing hardship. If you’re a licensed counselor or would like to support this ministry, your presence will offer both nourishment and hope.
